Free software for ACNC-registered charities

01Mind makes some of its software free for Australian charities registered with the ACNC — our way of giving something back to the organisations that hold communities together.

Why we built it

Infoxchange's 2025 survey of 824 Australian and New Zealand not-for-profits found that data security is the main thing holding charities back from using AI, that only 23% have a documented cyber security plan, and that cost is the biggest barrier to improving their systems. Software is a cost most charities can't afford or justify, so we've built the free software below to help.

Who can use it

Any ACNC-registered charity can use this software for free.

Registering is simple — four questions:

We check your ABN against the ACNC Register of Australian Charities and confirm the registration ourselves. We retain only your charity's name and ABN and your contact person's details. Once you're confirmed, we email your contact person a login and password, and you can use the software whenever you want.

Charity Login

For charities we've already approved: your charity's ABN and the password we emailed you.

The software

Cyber security plan

What it is. A short document that sets out who in your charity is responsible for cyber security, what information and systems you hold, how you protect them, and exactly what you'll do if something goes wrong — a scam email, a hacked account, lost or stolen records.

Why you need one. Charities hold sensitive information about donors, clients and volunteers, and cyber criminals target them. The ACNC says the people who run a charity are responsible for managing its cyber security risks. A written plan is how your board shows it has done that, and when something does go wrong, nobody has to work out what to do from scratch.

What you do. Answer plain-English questions about how your charity works — about 30 to 40 minutes — and download your plan as a Word document you can edit and keep. It's built on guidance from the ACNC and the Australian Cyber Security Centre.

AI-use policy

What it is. A policy that sets out how people in your charity may use AI tools such as ChatGPT or Copilot: what they can use them for, what information must never be put into them, and who checks what they produce.

Why you need one. Staff and volunteers are often already using AI tools, without anyone having decided the rules. Without a policy, private information about donors and clients can end up in tools outside your control — the data-security worry charities raised in the survey.

What you do. Answer questions about the AI tools your charity uses and how — about 15 to 20 minutes — and download your policy as a Word document you can edit and keep. It's built on guidance from the ACNC, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and the National AI Centre.

Both run in your own browser. Nothing you type into them is sent to us — we never see your answers, your plan or your policy.
